Dr. Hwa A. Lim (HAL) obtained his Ph.D. (science), M.A. (science), and MBA (strategy and business laws) from the USA, his B.Sc. (Hons.), ARCS from Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine, University of London, UK.
Hailed from Silicon Valley, California, the haven of AI breakthroughs, Dr. Hwa A. Lim thrives in disruptive technologies. With a sobriquet as "Father of Bioinformatics", Dr. Lim is an internationally renowned expert, well published with ~18 books and ~200 peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Lim has been program director of a supercomputer institute and a faculty member of a university. As such, he enjoys guiding students, supervising doctoral candidates and prides in their successes.
His education/training in the UK and the US, and his career (in the US) spanned over many disruptive technologies: transistors, lasers, fiber optics… in the 1970s. In early 1990s, the Internet came along. In mid 1990s, the web revolution came along. Then in early 2000s, social media debuted, not to mention nanotechnology… Cellphones went from 1G (1981), 2G (1992), 3G (2001), 4G (2010), 5G (2020)… and now, by the end of 2010s, generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini...).
All these disruptive exposures have morphed him into an educator and a mentor who functions best in disruptive technological environments, and one who can empathize with students going through disruptive times of changing technological environments, social change, or crisis (conflicts, wars, pandemics)...
