The world has been through many changes. In the future world, nations will have to work with each other to take advantage of the changes. The U.S., at present, is experiencing threats from within (business scandals) and without (terrorist attacks). While conquering the threats, the U.S. always manages to capitalize on the opportunitites. But for the U.S. to be truly successful, other nations will have to be a part of the greater effort. This jargon-free book on CHANGE by Dr. Hwa A. Lim is a very timely publication. It provides an unbiased account of changes in the past, at present and those to be expected in the future. It also describes "change" as an act in the present to favorably affect a future outcome. This is a book for anyone who wants to understand and master change.

About six years ago, whenver I wanted to illustrate the rate of change of social, economic and intellectual in a talk, I always used the following example: "Imagine the history of business cards. At the beginning of the 20th century, until almost the late 80s, what one printed on a business card would be one's name, address, company name, and maybe a telephone number. In the early 90s, almost suddenly, one had to add a fax number, followed quickly by a bitnet address (which soon was replaced by an Internet address). Now it is not uncommon to include one's URL." In other words, in the past 10 years to 15 years, this rate of change, reflected in the global economic, intellectual, and even military chaos it has spurred, has been growing at a dizzying speed. Therefore, I have always secretly hoped that someone who understands the rate of change far more than I could wtite about it so that societies, East or West, can fully appreciate what citizenry means in the new century.
The book on CHANGE by Hwa A. Lim, a scholar, a technologist, and an entrepreneur, who is a leader of one of the hottest intellectual/business activities, biotechnology, is preciely such a book!
